Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach PE to students in grades K-5 in a multicultural school that celebrates diversity. My students enjoy running, racing, biking, bowling, dancing, and tennis. They also enjoy reading, math, and playing foursquare and basketball at recess.

All the students at my school are able to eat breakfast at school for free.

Many students are bilingual. A few don't speak English but are making progress every day.

Students at my school recently started learning from home. Teaching from home has its challenges, but it has been wonderful seeing students again in class meetings online.

My Project

I recently tried using slides to teach more content in my PE classes. Students need to know the five parts of fitness, and the slides were one way that I thought all students would be able to open the links without any issues. Then I found out about Nearpod.

Many mistakes later, I´m finding that Nearpod is much more engaging for students.

They can play games that I create using content they need to know. Instead of students whizzing past the slides I used to make, with Nearpod, they slow down and really focus on answering questions accurately.

Whether it´s matching pairs, answering questions after a video, or drawing a response to a question, students get immediate feedback in a positive light while teachers get a report of their progress!

I´m requesting is for a one-year Platinum subscription to Nearpod. This has the most storage and features out of all the available plans. I currently have a free subscription but am running out of storage (with only a total of about 7 different lessons) because some videos take up so much space.

As many of my students like to compete and win in physical activities, these interactive slides give my students a chance to challenge themselves in academic ways and experience a lot of success while having fun along the way.
