it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi friend!
I teach three 9/10th (mixed) grade English classes to immigrant students of varying English language proficiencies at a wonderfully progressive, child-centered high school in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. I engage with about 90 students a day at this international school.
In October, I plan to teach my students the Mythology genre for about 6 weeks. Since students will be learning about Ancient Civilizations in Global and are from all over the world, I would like to purchase mythology texts for them that center on MesoAmerica, Egypt, Africa and China.
You can help me do this! Also, my students range from ESL beginners to intermediates and need texts that THEY can access and that are ENGAGING for them. So, I've selected a wonderful series of colorful, fun and challenging Graphic (like comics!) Mythology texts tht will engage all of my students. Students in the past have LOVED these graphic novels.
In groups of 6, my students will read and analyze one text and present/share it with the rest of the class. A writing assignment will also be required of students at the end of the genre study. When this project is over, the graphic novles will enter our classroom library and all (300) students in our school will have access to them for independent reading.
The books are sold as a Graphic Mythtology Classroom Set. That comes with a total of 36 books!
