My Students

My students are 6th graders who attend a Title I school in Northern California. They are eager to learn, and I am excited to be able to help them understand more about science.

My students need materials to help them conduct experiments and make their own conclusions about various scientific concepts in the areas of earth's structures, space, ecosystems and food chains, and chemistry.

Support for our curriculum is necessary to accomplish our learning goals! Thank you for supporting our next generation of scientists!

My Project

Mystery Science is a fun and engaging Next Generation Science Standards based science curriculum that combines inquiry-based learning and science experiments to help students grasp grade-appropriate science concepts. This project funds supplies for several Mystery Science lessons including "Can you turn something worthless into gold?, "Are magic potions real?", "What happens if you drink a glass of acid?", "Can we make it rain?", "Why does the moon change shape?", "What are the wandering stars?", "What do plants eat?", "Do worms really eat dirt?", and "Where do fallen leaves go?"

In the Mystery Science lesson “Can we make it rain?”, students use a hot and cold bottle of water (dyed blue and red) to examine how the temperature affects water molicies and condensation.

In the Mystery Science lesson, “Can we turn something meaningless into gold?”, students examine a nail that has appeared to change to copper overnight in a solution of vinegar and salt. In Mystery Science lesson, “Do worms really eat dirt?”, students will create a mini worm home and record what they observe during the Mystery.

In all of the Mystery Science lessons, students use regular household products to conduct experiments. We need an electric kettle, borax, plastic cups, food coloring and other supplies. The supplies requested will help our class have fun while also learning scientific concepts through inquiry and experimentation.
