My Students

My class of first graders are energetic and eager to learn. They love being read to and make book discussions lively with their observations and insights. I love their enthusiasm for new characters and subjects. When we have “Turn and Talk” time I’m often amazed at some of their input, with them seeing things that I as an adult may have missed. They are a very well behaved bunch who love literature and help our class stay a positive place to learn.

My Project

Listening to recorded books allows my students to independently enjoy many titles they might not be able to read on their own, increasing both knowledge and vocabulary. We have a few classroom computers with a limited selection of leveled books from software companies available. I would love more opportunities for students to enjoy trade books on their topics of interest and popular characters. With scheduling so tight each day, I don’t get to read aloud to my class nearly as often as I’d like. The MP3 players would help fill a gap. I already have several titles ready to upload.
