This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a residence called children’s village. They are placed there for many reasons including family issues, delinquent behavior, and trauma. I am their 4th grade teacher however they are extremely delayed and have severe behavioral/emotional handicaps.

I have been working here for 20 years and believe God placed me in this position to nurture, educate, and love these boys who critically need it.

I am a widow with 2 children of my own and tons of love to give!

My Project

Right before Christmas break, I read my weird school “Deck the Halls We’re off the Walls” with my class. I haven’t seen them get so excited over a book! They laughed hysterically at the antics of AJ, the main character. They created google slide presentations about the book. We had one copy which I photocopied for each boy and they literally fought over the one hard copy I had! That’s when I realized I was really on to something with this series. I would love for each boy to have their own copy of the books while we read together as a class. I will create lessons based on each novel using new and innovative ways for my students to express what they learned. I would love to spend the rest of the year with these boys being entertained by the characters in this series.
