This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I currently have 42 students in my kindergarten classes. There are 21 students in each class. My students have a love for technology, reading and math. They are very excited about learning and I want to make the class interactive. My students don't have access to much technology. Many of our students are low income students and they don't have digital devices at home. The students in my classroom are a diverse group of children who come from intricate family backgrounds. I teach at a low income school and in a classroom full of eager learners who are enthusiastic about coming to school every day!
My Project
These books will allow students to expand their reading beyond the classroom, enriching their experiences. The goal is to develop a life long love for reading, while enhancing comprehension skills to boost academic achievement.
Providing these books, will increase the students' exposure to texts and literature they would otherwise not encounter.
The goal is an elevated appetite for reading. Learning and growing. Our school budget has been drastically lowered, and the school does not have a media specialist to encourage the leisurely reading. As a teacher, I believe it is imperative to the success of our students to have books they can read outside of an assigned lesson that will inspire and entertain them. After being displaced after hurricane Maria it is evident that I have to work even harder to get my students to succeed.
