My Students

My students need these items. I work on a Title 1 school, and students don't have money to buy essential supplies, like pencils, notebook, erasers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want all my students to pass their classes, trying as hard as they can. Coming to school with no supplies gives them an unsecure feeling of being unprepared and therefore their attitude is negative toward school and any subject related to school.

My students are all minority They come from all over the world.

They speak different languages, but they are very motivated to learn English. I personally bought books but their reading level is very low (about 1st /2nd /3rd/4th/5th grade). I need very basic reading and maybe some picture books where they will not feel defeated but instead victorious. I hope to get more books, but so far the school has no extra money, so I am also going to the library with them almost every week. They like to read but when all they have is a book with very hard words, I can see their eyes full of sadness. I wish I can get more books but my school doesn't have any extra money right now so I need to come up with good ideas for how to get what my students need.

My Project

I start my class with about 20 minutes reading, then I ask them to write a summary, and some students volunteer to share it with the class. Then while I teach, they take notes over the main topic, and they also summarize the lesson. Having even a few magazines will help center lessons around current issues! I like to write on the white board and use different colors, to attract their attention. I am also asking for basic supplies such as markers for my classroom to help with things like using the white board.

Most of my students come from a poor family.

I want to be there for them not only their teacher but also as a second family. I want to give them a good education and give them what they need in order to pass their class.
