Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title I school in a low economic area. Our classroom is filled with varying abilities and learning styles. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. For some, those are the only meals they can rely on. Most families are blended families and some students only have one parent.
Despite the many challenges that they face, my students are always ready to learn and eager to try new things.
I strive to provide them with rich experiences because they are resilient learners who love school.
My Project
My students love to be colorful. I started the year with several sets of colorful pens and Sharpies however, due to their constant use in creating their doodling notes they are quickly drying up. My students love to be able to be creative with their notes and their drawings. The addition of color adds a flair to the notes that help them to retain the information.
These colorful notes engage both sides of their brains which helps in their memory, focus, and retention.
Also, it helps them to relax and adds some excitement to otherwise boring note taking. In addition to creating notes they create personalized stickers to add to their notes and to their assignments to add a more personal touch.
