This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students do not have access to a wide variety of books, but they are curious and eager to read more. They do not have electronic readers, and our school does not have a library other than the one I have cobbled together from my own purchases and a few small donations.

My high school students attend a small, public alternative school.

All of them had great difficulty trying to adapt to a large high school setting. Many have been expelled from more than one school, and we provide their last and only option for them to earn their high school diploma.

My Project

After finishing the book Night my students wanted to learn more. With a classroom set, we will be able to read together daily and learn more from Elie Wiesel. All of my students had more questions after reading Night. They want to know what else Elie Wiesel has to say. This book will open their eyes even further.

Have you met anyone who never heard of the holocaust?

Some of my students never have. They did not know any of the story until we read Night together. But Elie Wiesel's story doesn't end there. With the book Conversations with Elie Wiesel, my students can learn more about a subject that sadly, some of them knew nothing about just a few short weeks ago.
