This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Reading means freedom.
Reading means prosperity.
Reading means power.
Reading well, with comprehension, is the purest indicator of academic and economic success.
My Diverse Learners are eager to learn.
The majority of my students perform at significantly lower mathematic and reading levels than their same-age, same-grade level peers. The resources at my school and in the community are extremely limited. My school has an overall rating of a level 3. Student growth and attainment is one of our highest areas of need.
My Project
I am asking for an Elmo document camera, a class rug and a classroom library of leveled books. Fundamental reading, writing, and mathematics are high areas of need amongst my diverse learners. An Elmo will assist me in teaching and it will help my students follow along better and participate more. The Leveled Library will expose my students to different texts and help increase their enjoyment in reading independently. A library rug will create a comfortable learning environment for my students to thrive.
I have grown a strong interest in adolescent literature and the achievement gap, and the affects each has on students of color with disabilities.
Donating to this project will create a better learning environment for my students as well as provide them with a better opportunity to prosper.
