Paul Robeson High School is a “high-need” school on Chicago's South side. We are located in the heart of the Englewood community, which is one of Chicago's poorest and toughest areas. Many of my students are from single-parent homes and a non-traditional family environment. Approximately 95% of the students that attend our school receive free or reduced-price lunch. I am currently teaching five classes (120 total students) of Geometry. Many of my students have difficulties with geometric concepts which involve algebra. A very effective means for me to help my students to better hone their algebra and computational skills is through use of scientific calculators. Many of my students either cannot afford to purchase a calculator or do not understand the importance of owning one. By having a classroom set of calculators available to my students, I hope to role-model for them that owning a calculator is an integral part of their high school education. I am excited about the idea of implementing a classroom set of graphing calculators into my classroom, and any assistance in bringing this request to fruition will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your consideration of this request.
