This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have some of the greatest students in the St. Louis area. My students are so great because even though they come from all different backgrounds, they work together so well. I know that when they go home they face challenges that children should not face. I want to make sure that when they enter my classroom they have only the best learning experience. My students may have many difficulties in their lives, but getting a high quality education in my classroom will never be one.

My Project

My students love, love, love the Rick Riordan books! Every year we start off our reading journey with The Lightning Thief. This is a great book to start the year because it inspires my students to keep reading. Usually what the kids want to read next is another of the Rick Riordan books. If they like that book, they will go on to another of his books. Riordan has so many books that his collection could keep the kids busy reading all year. I have a well loved set of his books in my classroom now, but they desperately need to be replaced. I am so glad that my books get worn out because that means that the kids love them and read them. So, this project will help my students to keep reading the whole year with a new set of the Rick Riordan books.
