Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my 7th year of teaching. I have taught both internationally and nationally. My experiences have taught me that students, no matter the age, learn best by doing. It is my goal to provide as many active learning situations as possible. I am a technology driven individual and strive to bring technology into the classroom whether it is through STEAM projects, apps, or project-based learning.
My school serves a low-income area of San Bernardino, CA.
The majority of the population are English Learners. The school is K-6 and serves over 700 children. Our school has fantastic teachers who love their students.
The goal is to prepare every student for college and career readiness no matter their families' income and to prepare students to be productive citizens of a global society.
My Project
In a world that is clutter with technology, I am embarking on this journey of coding with my 4th graders. I must admit, I have limited coding knowledge; however, this will not hold me back. Why? Because, my students and I will be on journey together.
Instead of taking phones away from my students, I want to shift their thinking about their phones via the Sphero.
I want to shift student thinking about the function of phones beyond using Twitter, Snapchat, and Musically. I want to bring a new challenge involving coding to my teaching and to the classroom. I may need more than two Sphero balls, but this is a start.
