My students face incredible challenges each and every day. Despite their severe disabilities, they come to school each day with a smile and an enthusiastic attitude. I am proud to be their teacher because my students brighten my day each day. The students in my class strive to succeed.
My students make up a diverse class of many different handicaps--autism, Downs Syndrome, wheelchair students with severe disabilities, students with tracheotomies and feeding tubes.
We have a full time nurse in the classroom. We are part of a large comprehensive high school in the inner city. I believe that my students deserve the very best in life , and I try to provide an atmosphere where they learn and also are enthusiastic about school. Some of my students go out to mainstream classes, and they participate in lunch and music. Other students in the school enjoy coming to the classroom to assist them. My students inspire me to be the best teacher that I can be. The challenges that they face each day puts a perspective on life.
My Project
I am requesting a camera and a refrigerator. This might seem like a strange combination to you, but they are both necessities in my classroom. MY students love to have their pictures taken. If I had a camera readily available, I would be able to photograph various projects. I would love to make a wall of pictures, and also to give pictures to each student to take home. Most of my families do not have cameras, and therefore the students do not have pictures of themselves. I think that seeing a nice picture will improve self-esteem. The other item which I am requesting is a refrigerator for my classroom. There are some medications that need refrigeration,and that has been a difficulty this year. We also try to celebrate holidays and birthdays and often have ice cream. We have not had any area to keep items which need refrigeration or need a freezer. By asking for these two items, I am hoping to improve the atmosphere of our classroom , and to have more successful events.
The refrigerator and camera will help my students to have a more positive school day.
My students deserve the little extras, and these two items will help us to achieve our goal---success , motivation and achievement.
