This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school district is part of a rural community with 80% of the student population coming from low-income households.
My students are intellectually gifted 3rd-grade students.
Students come to my classroom through a daily one hour "pull-out program" for a total of 5 hours per week. My class size ranges from 9 to 12 students. I have a total of 40 students in 4 different class periods.
My students come to my classroom excited to explore the world of critical thinking skills, creativity, group dynamics, communication, research, effective and life skills, and self-directed learning.
My Project
I am requesting 3 Amazon Fire Tablets for my students. They have recently completed Google's CS First coding activities and can't wait to do more. I have received training from several different coding programs. But Google made the coding experience so exciting for my students with easy to follow instructions.
My students' favorite part about the Google's CS First coding was learning how to creating dialogue between characters on the computer.
They called it their "cartoons". They learned how to add characters, sound, movement, and speech bubbles to their "cartoons".
My classroom needs more tablets, so that we do not have to sign up to borrow tablets from the school computer lab. Sometimes we have to wait several weeks on a waiting list for the tablets due to them being used in other classrooms. My school has one set of 25 but over 400 students throughout the school.
I would like to provide my students with easier access to tablets for coding/programming and writing dialogue to tell a story. This would be possible by having more tablets for students to use in my classroom.
