I am a 3rd grade and 4th grade teacher to 28 students in a low-income school. We have a large Native American population, as we are in the heart of many different tribal lands. Our school also has many English learners and many migrant families.
My students go the extra mile and know that when they struggle, they are learning!
We all work together as a family! They tend to learn more efficiently when they are able to really have hands-on experience with the topic at hand. When we are working on a topic and the students are interested, we do all that we can to learn everything we can about that topic. My students are visual learners. They really enjoy science and art and really work together as one big team.
My Project
Board games are an easy way to encourage healthy brain development in older kids and teens. “Strategy games are useful in helping the frontal lobes of the brain develop,” says Beatrice Tauber Prior, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist. “Those frontal lobes are responsible for executive function skills, which include planning, organizing, and making good decisions." While increasing brain function, playing board games helps reduce anxiety and stress levels. Many of my students come from stressful situations in life and being at school is their only security.
Playing board games brings people closer and strengthens relationships!
In my classroom, I allow students to eat/ remain in the classroom during outside breaks because that is sometimes where they feel the most comfortable! Having board games in the classroom will allow for students to do other things that are interactive instead of just wanted to play games independently on their ipads.
