Help me give my students the technology they need to build their reading muscles. My kiddos are dyslexic and reading audiobooks on iPads can build their vocabulary, background knowledge, and stamina.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school eager to learn, excited to share, and ready to grow despite the difficulties they face with reading. I am interested in creating an environment for my students to excel. I provide experiences and opportunities in reading that stretch their abilities.
My students attend a PK-5 school in a large school district.
They are of average to very low socioeconomic backgrounds. The students I work with have many difficulties with reading, including dyslexia. They are smart, funny, inquisitive, and caring children. They face tough challenges but are a part of a strong school community.
My Project
The technology we will receive through this project is three iPads to add to the other two I received several years ago. The iPads have accessibility features and applications helpful to students with dyslexia. One accessibility feature, "text-to-speech," allows for content learning without struggling to decode every word. Productivity apps can assist students so they can demonstrate their understanding through writing, recording, and creating.
The resources for this project will allow my students to practice and demonstrate what they have read using audiobooks.
There are a couple of excellent resources that all of my students have free access to on a handheld device. Students have the choice to select the genre and level of text they want to read, which means all of the needs of my 1st-5th graders can be addressed.
The iPads are so helpful in the classroom because of their portability, durability, and accessibility. The students can read anywhere in the room with such a lightweight tool. The devices I have now are a perfect condition that I got from a grant five years ago. They will stop working because they will no longer update before one breaks, I think.
