I teach at a Title I school in Texas where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, and several receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of the students come from struggling homes, and school is the only constant they have each day. Our school is part of the NEU network, which stands for "No Excuses University." At my school, we believe that we should prepare every single student for college and we allow no excuses when they say that they cannot do something.

My Project
Our community was impacted by Hurricane Harvey last year. Some of the students were displaced due to damage and are still trying to recover today. Being in a low-income area also affects what resources they have access too. Harvey destroyed some of the technology that the students had, and unfortunately, we have not been able to get it replaced due to funding. My classroom was affected because my students have been affected. They are lacking resources at home, and as a teacher, I am trying to give them everything they need to succeed.
Basic computations are used in everyday life, and it's up to us to teach them.
I teach 4th-grade math and science to some amazing students. Math facts are a constant struggle for them. I would like to incorporate fun and engaging math fact activities using Amazon Fire Tablets to help my students learn their facts.
However, students, today would rather practice facts on an interactive math app than staring at a paper to learn them. So I am trying to accommodate their interests and do whatever it takes for them to be successful.
Although these Fire Tablets would mainly be used for math, I could also use them when we do our different science research projects throughout the year
