My students need a carpet that allows them to have their own space to sit comfortably. Right now they are all scrunched up on a small carpet. They do not get to have their own space.
My Kindergartners are loving and caring, active and spontaneous but they have so many hardships to overcome both in and outside our classroom. Between living in low income homes, free and reduced lunch, homelessness, and foster care, they still come into class eager and ready to learn. I may not be able to control what goes on in their home lives, but I give my all to make their school lives warm and inviting.
Coming into class and learning to read is one of the hardest things they have to do but they put 110% into it.
Most of my Kindergartners are having trouble learning the most basic sight words, let alone being able to read Kindergarten leveled text. We do not have a reading curriculum that supports their reading levels and end up having to find reading books they can read by themselves from other sources but not in their interest levels. Eighty-three percent of my students are reading below grade level. I want to provide them a life long love of learning by providing them the tools for them to succeed!
My Project
The carpet we have in our classroom right now is small, faded and does not give my students places they can claim as their own. My kindergartners need to have space between each other to be comfortable and able to focus. These kindergartners are just learning how to be in school and about boundaries for others.
The fact that this carpet has colors and shapes will help my kindergartners learn colors and shapes, as well as, have a place of their own to claim.
This will be a fun addition to our classroom learning environment! It has teaching capabilities and will assist in making the classroom climate colorful and comfortable.
