My Project

My students come to me for reading instruction as they are behind their grade-level peers. They are doing well when I am right there teaching and coaching them to sound out words and use their strategies, but it doesn't always carry over in class. Sometimes students are unable to participate in the same independent stations as their classmates because the work is too challenging.

These hands-on activities and games are perfect for my struggling readers to practice their reading skills in their regular class during independent stations.

They can use the wax yarn sticks to form and spell words, or the sand tray to write words. They love the sand tray we use in reading groups, but this one has a cover so they can use it in class. There are other games using pop-its, spinning wheels, dry-erase markers, and more. There are flip books to encourage reading sentences and learning sentence structure. These activities can be rotated among the different students and classrooms once they are taught how to use them. My students will have their own stations perfect for them!
