My Students

I teach first graders in an inclusive setting. My class consists of regular education students in addition to students with varying needs such as developmental delays, autism, speech and language, and specific learning disabilities. We all strive to do our very best at supporting one another each and every day. Our classroom community is full of loving and caring individuals.

My class of curious and energetic first graders live in an urban setting where all receive free breakfast and lunch.

My Project

Hatching butterflies in the classroom is an experience I want to provide for my first graders year after year. It allows me to teach about life cycles & metamorphosis in an authentic way. Imagine the opportunity to witness life science right before your eyes!

Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better- Albert Einstein.

In addition, students will get to see moths hatch. From this experience, students will describe how butterflies & moths are similar or different. They will also ask questions, write, color, draw & make observations. Not only that, we will begin a very important conversation about pollinators and its importance in our food supply. A life cycle kit will benefit students that are more hands-on with their learning.

Thank you for your interest in this project!
