This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love attending our STEM-based school where our motto is “Work hard. Get smart. No excuses.” This school year, I will be providing an environment for students to creatively practice the STEM engineering design process with an emphasis on utilizing innovative technology resources while staying true to our motto.
My students deserve and would benefit from having exposure to unique experiences beyond the typical urban public school day.
My students live in an area that makes up thirty percent of the prison population in Georgia. Nevertheless, they come to school each day, eager to learn academic and social skills to become college and career ready! Their desire to be distinguished scholars truly inspires me to be a better educator and advocate for children.
My Project
The technology supplies that I am requesting will allow my students access to resources that may be used to compete in Technology Fairs and STEM Expos at the school, district, and at the state level. My students use iPads for filming interviews, public service announcements, lessons, and events at our STEM-based school! They also have the option of editing their footage on our desktop computers or iPads in the Innovation Café! The Innovation Café is a newly renovated computer lab with flexible seating, devices, and tech toys that promote creativity and innovation while reinforcing core subject and 21st-century skills.
My scholars would definitely benefit from having our Innovation Café equipped with headphones it will allow students to edit videos without being distracted by other noises in the room.
Additionally, the headphones will support my students' accessibility to self-paced video-based lessons and audiobooks in our Innovation Café’s Earth-Friendly differentiated library. Lastly, microphones for our iPads is another necessary resource to produce videos at a competitive level for a variety of technology and media competitions.
My ultimate goal is to assist in closing the digital divide by providing my students with resources that will allow them to create products that can be submitted in various STEM Expos, technology fairs, and media festivals.
