My students need a place to sit and meet with their community partner mentors.

Our academy will be a premiere school of choice serving the community with pride and excellence that prepares students to lead both nationally and globally by facilitating data-driven, innovative, project-based instruction. We provide additional programs for students that may not be available at the designated campus. As the counselor of these dedicated children, I feel they deserve all I can offer. These children go above and beyond with portfolios, presentations, projects, volunteer activities and much more to show their leadership skills. My kiddos deserve all the help and guidance they can receive to achieve their goals and make their dreams come true.
My school is in a low income area and my students have been blessed to have outside community partners volunteer their time to make a difference with our students. Due to large numbers of staff and students, we have limited space on campus for meetings to take place with the community partners and their student groups. We searched the campus and found a nook that is the foyer to a storage room. I saw potential and opportunity. This is it!
Blank white space that needs color and warmth to be inviting for students and community partners.
I want to create a place where both the students and the volunteers want to spend quality time learning and growing with one another. I have two small tables, but kids love to sit on the floor and work puzzles, act out scenarios and how to respond respectfully, color, create art and just work. The rug will provide the space needed to make this happen. The rug with owls was chosen because we are Owls at our school. The quote " Be WHOOOOOOO You Are" is exactly the goal in our mentoring sessions.
The area is all white and we are trying to spruce it up but it is difficult with limited funds. Our community partners are spending their time 2-3 days a week for 1-2 hours each. We want this place to be as inviting, warm, and fun as possible. I believe with the products chosen this will be a good start.
