My students need a carpet that can enhance their ability to learn the alphabet letters.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students will be mesmerized by this lovely carpet which displays each letter of the alphabet in both upper and lower case. My visual learners will have these letters etched in their memory from viewing it so often each day. My kinesthetic learners will be tracing those letters with their little fingers instead of listening to what I am trying to teach them. Finally, my auditory learners will be listening when I direct them to sit on specific letters. If my students learn the entire alphabet in kindergarten, it will be the catalyst for their success in the first grade. They want to learn; I want them to learn too. Please help us if you can!
I grew up in an urban area, but attended catholic school for most of my life. I enjoyed school and felt safe and nurtured there. I loved my teachers who took time with me because they inspired me to have passion for others and a love for knowledge. I try to do the same for my students who attend school in the urban area that I teach in. I teach the students in a nurturing way and encourage them to see me as their "school mommy". I love them all and want them to learn because I know that their knowledge is the key to their future successes. Their learning truly does begin with letter recognition. Children who have the ability to learn the letter names in kindergarten stand a good chance of becoming successful first graders.
At the moment, one quarter of my students know all of the letters of the alphabet. Our assessment for them includes the computer written version of "g" and "a", which brings us to 54 letters instead of the 52 that it should be. The other three quarters of the class know at least 25 or more letters with a huge majority knowing about 40. I believe that this carpet will assist me in pulling the children over this hurdle. They will have more experience with the letters throughout the day because of having it in the classroom and they will all master this concept.
We are all facing trying times. I sincerely wish that I could just purchase this carpet for my room without any hesitation. However, I cannot do this right now. I already fund so many other things that are needed on a daily basis and this item is impossible for me at this time. It may seem like a luxury to some, but I have used this carpet in previous years (in another school district) and have had great success with it. If you could find it in your pocketbook to assist me in this journey to help a child become a reader, it would be so greatly appreciated.
