Ms. Rosenberg from Miami FL is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need iPads that will allow them to do research for projects and laptops to maintain their online work assignments. My students also need hands on math tools.

Imagine a classroom with the greatest leaders of our time; scientists, politicians, quirky artists- all bunched together. Now imagine them at eight years old. That is my classroom in a nutshell. I am the teacher of a 2nd/3rd grade combined gifted classroom full of the leaders of tomorrow.
Today in class we discussed that knowledge has more value than items you can purchase.
It was the moral of the chapter we were reading in book club and it struck me heavy. I looked up and surveyed my kids. I thought about how there are so many barriers between them and students in another school, a mere 15 miles north of us. Some of them go home and there is no air condition. They can't get new uniform because they have to share with their sibling. I remembered that none of that matters, because they have a desire to learn. These munchkins actually cheer when we start a new math lesson- they love it that much! Knowledge holds value to them, and we can help them gain it.
The electronic materials that I am requesting (lap tops and iPads) are predominately for research purposes. At my school we do have technology, however my grade level has limited access to it in the classroom. My students learn best through practice. I can give them a subject and they will go to the moon and back trying to learn everything they can. Having laptops will enable them to do projects that intertwine a variety of subjects and are student lead. The math tools kit is being requested to assist my students in mastering their grade level math standards. Many of my students are kinesthetic learners, they need to be hands on in order to fully get what is being presented. This kit has hands on activities for each portion of our math curriculum.
This year my motto for my kids is "access".
I am determine to break down any barriers that may present themselves in their lives. Having internet access at the tips of their fingers will instill more meaning in the assignments that they tackle. The computers will also help them to come in contact with individuals from our community that may be able to enrich their lives. In addition, using hands on activities to master math standards will help them build the fundamental skills for their future.
