Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Kindergarten teacher at a Title I school. Title I simply means we service very needy children on a very limited budget. Most of my students are on free/reduced lunch. My parents volunteer in my class but do not have extra money to donate for classroom materials. I would like to purchase a listening center. The majority of my children are English Language Learners. By the time they leave Kindergarten, they are expected to read and write a short story in English. In order to make this happen, we need to first listen to and practice the language. Listening centers provide the best opportunity for listening to academic language while enjoying a wonderful story. The particular listening center I am looking at would provide space for up to eight children at a time to listen to a pre-recorded story while following along in the book. When the story is finished, the center allows space for the children to draw/write about their favorite part of the story. This listening center would be used and enjoyed by 40 students each year. Listening to literature is so important for children. I would love to offer this experience to my children in the most comfortable and functional way possible. Thank you so much for your time.
