Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 32 wonderful 6th-grade students. Many of them come from very rough backgrounds. Our school is one of the lower performing schools in our district. At our school, 100% of our students receive free lunch, and many stay after school to attend the after-school CAPS program. Most of my students live in the low-income apartments located across the street from our school. They are extremely sweet, kind, and smart individuals, but need a lot of love and support to help them through the things they are facing on a daily basis.
My Project
A lot of my students come to class hungry. I would love to be able to give them a snack, but with 32 students the snacks disappear quickly. I also have students who stay after school to help me, and I would love to be able to give those students a treat while they are there helping out.
I would love to have a stash of snacks on-hand so that any hungry students will be able to have something to eat if they need it.
Hunger can really affect how a student's day goes, and I would love to be able to provide any hungry student I have with something quick that will satisfy their hunger and have an impact on their day in a positive way.
