Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a bilingual math teacher. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math. I am teaching students who come from different Spanish-speaking countries with different backgrounds. My students need a lot of motivation in order to succeed in school. They need more hands-on activities applying to the real world. I am interested in keeping my students off the street and increasing their interest in their education. My school is located in a poor neighborhood, and we do not have the materials and equipment that we need to make the lessons more interesting and interactive for my students. I need to use technology in my classroom in order to make mathematics more interesting to them.
I teach in a classroom without computers, an overhead projector, or a screen to display the transparencies etc. In my classroom we only have a green board, old desks which make a lot of sound, a lot of cabinets which use 2/3 of the room, and the math textbooks. My classroom is an old science lab, which has not been prepared for students who need a lot more materials and technology because of their backgrounds and their lack of language acquisition. The lack of materials makes them more vulnerable to drop out of school at an early age.
My students need one LCD projector to present their projects and keep using for everyday lessons. I know that if my students get access to technology they will learn more and they will be more interested in doing projects in school and presenting them to their classmates.
I am sure that if you help me, my students will get the education that they deserve, so that they can go to college and be part of our American culture.
