My students need bar stools! I am building a 12 ft bar workstation with stools. Students who need more space and movement will have this seating option. It will free up space in the classroom too.
This project expired on October 6, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I will be teaching in the Summit program which is a computer-based, self-paced education platform for my 8th & 9th grade Science students. Summit allows students to advance quickly as their mastery of the material allows. Especially advanced students can cover two grade levels in a single school year while a student who requires more time to grasp a concept is allowed to do so at a pace that fits their learning ability. As the teacher, it is my job to mentor and teach students individually. I will also assign and lead long-term research projects and lab experiments. These students are highly motivated and willing to experience a new learning style which will remove the limitations they would encounter in a traditional classroom whether they are gifted, average, or slower learners. The students love Summit and enrollment in the program has doubled since last year.
Many students are high-energy and fidgety and really struggle with desk seating, especially in rooms of 20+ students. My study bar, including the requested stools, will allow students to sit in a different position and swivel if they need to work out some wiggle while they work. It will also remove the distraction of being surrounded by other students. I plan to have a study bar, desks, tables, and bean bags so each student can choose the seating option that allows them to work and concentrate at their best. Having the study bar will also free up classroom space. Students will feel welcome and energized in an environment where they have choices and options that support their needs.
