Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from varied backgrounds. Some of my students have the opportunity to see the world around them and visit many new and exciting places, while some of my students have not traveled outside of our town. No matter what their background, all of my students love learning, love school, and love each other. My classroom is filled with future doctors, teachers, lawyers, and world changers. They are amazing and I want to do anything I can to introduce them to more and more!
My Project
This year I introduced data notebooks for students to track their own personal success. I want them to take ownership of their learning. I love to see them succeed and they love it too!
I teach first-grade, at a school that is highly impacted by poverty, as well as many English Language Learners.
This past year I started to use a data notebook, which is like a personal planner for learning. My students loved it! I want my students to own their learning.
The students can use their binders to track their learning throughout the year, they could point out their growth. I can just picture how their eyes could light up when they see their progress and how much they can accomplish. Not only will they learn how to read, but they will learn that by doing little steps, they could do things that seem impossible a few months before. I want my students to use their binders to store articles relating to reading, math, and science. In addition, I have requested journals for writing. My goal is to be able to teach them how to track their success through a data binder with their goals so they can take ownership of their learning. I have also requested journals so that my students are able to write their thoughts. I also requested school supplies that we are short of like erasers, tempera paint, and stapler.
This project will change my students' lives for the better and will improve my classroom teaching in a variety of ways.
Since we will have access to our data binders, my students will be able to understand how to responsibly for their own learning. In addition, they will have access to journals to write their thinking. Please help us with our project.
