My 4th and 5th grade self-contained class consists of 12 students with disabilities. These extraordinary scholars need an inviting, comfortable reading space where they can learn to love books. This is my first year of teaching and having my very own classroom. Many of my students are struggling readers that would greatly benefit from 30 minutes of sustained silent reading as a regular classroom routine. To engage students in the joy of reading, I am requesting two bean bags, a set of Christmas lights, books, reading posters, and a small children's tent for story time. Our teaching philosophy is that you can teach anyone anything, as long as you put it in terms that they understand. Our goal is accessing the general education content in different ways so that each student may understand in their own unique way and the opportunity to celebrate little wins together each day. Thank you for your time and support. Any donation is greatly appreciated.
My Project
We will build our reading stamina, by reading daily, keeping track of the books we are reading, and self reflecting. Just like athletes must practice a specific sport to get better, we must actively practice improving our reading skills to get better. These items will create an exciting work space that will motivate students to read and want to learn on their own. By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. You will help a first year teacher immensely and actively contribute to helping students become life long learners. Thank you!
