Imagine being passionate about playing an instrument but not being able to ever practice? This is a reality for many of my euphonium students. Due to our bulky, old, broken cases, many of my students are unable to bring their instruments home.
Exuberance, passion and humor are the first three words that come to mind when asked to describe my students.
They are crazy about band! They rehearse before school, at lunch and well after the school day ends. They play well, respect one another and rehearsals are filled with laughter. My students attend a middle school in an urban area. They are hail from all over the world, speak a multitude of languages and are from a wide range of economic backgrounds. While many would see this diversity as a challenge, we view it as a strength. Our students see band class as an opportunity to express themselves and see the band room as a home away from home.
My Project
New cases will allow my euphonium students to bring their instruments home to practice. Several of our cases are broken and are held together by bungee chords and duct tape. The cases I am asking for are sturdy yet light weight enough for students to manage. Additionally we are asking for some new timpani and xylophone mallets so that our percussionists will be able to achieve the proper tone colors on their instruments. Finally, the valve oil will keep our euphoniums and other brass instruments in working condition.
These donations will have an immense impact on our band!
Allowing more students to practice at home, outfitting our percussionists with proper mallets and providing our brass players with better valve oil will fortify our band program as we begin a new year. Our band program relies heavily on donations. It is our mission to provide a high quality music education to any student and donors like you have helped make that possible through the years. Thanks for your time and consideration!
