Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I'm a second grade Special Education teacher in Brooklyn. My school is a Title I school, and approximately 84% of its students receive free lunch. My classroom has 27 students and exactly 27 chairs. The problem is that some of these chairs are cracked or too small for second graders--they're made for preschool students! No child should be without a proper chair in school-- a desk and a chair are the two school supplies even more basic than a pencil and paper! With the addition of three new chairs to my classroom, I will be able to get rid of the broken chairs and provide each student with one that is the correct height for second graders. By helping to place three new chairs into my classroom, you will be providing students with one of the most basic school supplies I can think of. You will also help to minimize the distraction and discomfort caused when a 7 or 8 year old has to sit in a broken or tiny chair.
