Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is no typical day in my classroom. My students are all unique individuals with very specialized needs. We strive to meet the individual needs of everyone to maximize their success so they can succeed in their daily lives and future.
My students are wonderful!
They are all on the Autism Spectrum and all have a wide variety of needs and deficits. I have both verbal and nonverbal students. We work on a special curriculum with them called Verbal Behavior to increase their academic, language, social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
We are a urban school district with little to no budget for supplies for the students and teachers; however, we are full of love and want students to experience success.
While working on the Verbal Behavior curriculum, we integrate the use of picture cards to help increase the students language skills. We also use as a variety of games and manipulative's to increase their Manding (requesting) skills which if the biggest component of building effective language in both the home and school setting. We also work on early academic skills for the students who are ready in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math, and Science as well as a wide variety of sensory integration techniques.

All of my students are coming from a limited communication background and some are struggling with this deficit in not just one but two languages. The material I am requesting will help increase the students verbal skills so they can appropriately request their wants and needs at home, school, and the community.
All of these students are special and extremely close to my heart.
I strive to provide them with the best materials and education possible to help them succeed in building their language skills so they can appropriately communicate their wants and needs. These supplies will help facilitate their success towards this goal.
