My students need bean bag chairs, wobble chairs, and a rug so they have alternative places to sit when they're reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of fun, energetic, curious, creative, and loving first graders. They are constantly learning and growing and are thirsty to learn more.
I teach in a bilingual classroom.
All of my students are native Spanish speakers and are learning to read and write in Spanish, before transferring those literacy skills over to English when they get to third grade. Our goal is that our students will graduate from fifth grade both bi-literate and bilingual in Spanish and English. Giving my students opportunities to read and write in their native language will increase their chances of becoming proficient in both languages by the time they graduate.
My Project
My first graders are beginning to discover the love of books and reading, and need a comfy spot to sit and curl up with a good book. In my classroom, we spend a good portion of the day reading. When you walk into my classroom, my students are doing a variety of activities. We spend time doing independent reading, partner reading, and reading with the teacher of another adult in the classroom. My students need a good place to curl up with their book.
Earlier this year, I purchased two bean bag chairs, a table, and a lamp to create an inviting reading corner in my classroom.
It is my students' favorite place to read. When they're given the opportunity, you'll always find someone curled up with a book on one of the chairs. In order to make it equitable, I have to pick two students a day to read in the chairs. I want to have more comfy places for my students to read and that is why I am requesting three more bean bag chairs and a rug.
I am also requesting three Wobble Chairs. These chairs are for my students who have a lot of energy and have a hard time sitting still while they're working. I plan to use these chairs during my guided reading groups, for students who need to move around while they're reading. It is so important for students to have alternative seating in a classroom. The bean bag chairs, the rug, and the Wobble Chairs will allow my students to make a choice about where they will be the most successful while they're doing their work.
