Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help students with special needs get job skills! Students with special needs are seeking the opportunity to learn customer service practices and employment skills. These students would like to start a business. The class plans to sell coffee to students and staff at their high school each morning.
The students in our class vary from moderate to severe special needs.
Some of them are able to do simple one-step tasks, while others require more direct supervision and assistance. These students work on vocational skills, independent living skills and on becoming independent and productive members of society. They attend a public high school.
My Project
My students need 2 coffee machines and supplies to start a classroom coffee shop which will serve students and staff. By donating a Single Serve coffee maker and coffee, students can independently or with little direct assistance operate the coffee maker just by pushing a button. These coffee makers can give students the feelings of accomplishment and independence. The interaction between the students and the customers will replicate a service environment so that when these students earn their diploma and graduate, they can be more self-confident in their ability to work with customers.
