My Students
My students are COLLEGE BOUND! However, as we travel down the road that leads to college, my students make a "pit-stop" in my 5th grade math class. My students' levels of understanding of major content in math varies greatly. This is why I am excited that we have a class set of Chromebooks to use with our core curriculum to enhance my students' learning.
Our school is an inner city Title 1 school in which 100% of our student body population receive free breakfast and lunch.
My school takes great pride in serving military students from Barksdale Air Force Base as well as students from the local community.
My students are eager to learn and cannot wait to learn at the technology center during math class. However, because my students are economically disadvantaged, many do not have the headphones that they need for math class at all. Other students have headphones for a few weeks, but then they break. Military students often times have moved from long distances and need more time to acquire necessary school supplies.
My math superstars need headphones to help them achieve success and meet their goals in our core curriculum and on a variety of math programs.
My Project
Guided instruction, songs, joyful noises, instructional videos, and more can be heard coming from the Chromebooks in the technology center in my 5th grade math class.
A classroom set of headphones will enhance my students' learning experiences in math class as they interact with several programs on our Chromebooks.
Students visit the technology station for 30 minutes daily during math class. Other times, students come into the classroom before school to work on a variety of math programs. All of the interactive math programs that we use can get pretty noisy. Without headphones students have to turn the sound down so that they do not disturb fellow classmates in the technology center and in other areas of the room. When students cannot hear guided instruction, math songs, instructional videos, etc., learning is not meaningful. If every student had their own set of headphones, time spent on math programs in the technology center will be more meaningful thus enhancing student learning.
