This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a music teacher at a Title One school in the central Florida area and teach approximately five hundred students every week. Our school has an extremely diverse, low income student population.
Despite daily obstacles outside of school, my students love music and work hard to showcase their talents and take on new challenges.
My goal is for the music room to be a place they feel safe, are able to express themselves, take on those challenges and feel loved and supported.
My Project
The requested Seat Sacks will improve my students' learning because music materials they need on a daily basis will now be out of sight and will not be distracting. We use scarves on a daily basis but unfortunately, there isn't transition time for them to be collected and passed out again for the next class. Many times scarves become frayed, pulled and stepped on since there is no other option but to keep them under students chairs.
Seat Sacks will allow us to keep our scarves and many other materials we may need throughout a lesson (like pencils, paper, crayons, etc) easily accessible since we do not have desks in music class.
It will also increase instructional time since we will not waste time passing out materials. In turn, students will be engaged more quickly and can take full advantage of their once a week music class.
