Help me give my students the opportunity to hear words through music. I want to use the Multi Colored Masking Tape to color coordinate the letters in the Magnetic Sight Words to the colors on Xylophone.
I am so lucky to teach kindergarten at an A+ Arts Magnet School, which is a neighborhood school, but also a school of choice. The students that enter my classroom come from various backgrounds with various degrees of outside experiences. Some have experienced preschool or daycare and others have never left their parents. Some students have traveled, seen museums, gone to the beach or to the mountains and others have never left the neighborhood. Some students come in able to read and write, others do not know how to hold a pencil and cannot name a single letter.
Every student who enters my classroom can learn and grow no matter what their background.
They need love, patience, friendship, guidance and confidence. Each students receives that and more when they enter my classroom.
As an A+ Arts teacher, I am encouraged to give my students many opportunities to use music, drama, dance, art and movement to learn and to show what they know. Kindergarten students love to get involved in lessons by moving, singing, dancing and creating. They enjoy hands on experiences that they may not get anywhere else.
My Project
I am going to use the tape to color code the magnetic sight words to match the xylophone so that my students can hear their sight words as they spell and read them. I have a large magnetic board, which will be the perfect place for my students to use these new materials.
Music stimulates the brain and I want my students to have the opportunity to read, spell, write and hear the words.
After they play the words, they will use the Expo markers to write them on white boards. This will allow them to experience learning words in more than just one way.
We will use the other instruments to count how many words in a sentence, how many letters in a word, play syllables in words and to break words down into individual phonemes. I am excited to give my students the opportunity to experience the core curriculum through music.
