Musical Rainbow

My students need this rainbow rug to have their own space to play instruments, sing and dance. It also makes it easier to divide the class into small groups for music activities.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in a Title 1 elementary school that also has numerous military children. Being that I am the school's music teacher, I spread the love of music for all students K-5. Within those classes, 5 of them are autistic classes.

All of my students are eager to learn and explore different genres of music and instruments every time they enter the classroom.

I only have the opportunity to teach them once a week, so establishing that bond is very crucial. I love hearing my students walking down hallways expressing how excited they are for music day. This has become my personal day to day goal to keep students eager and motivated about music

My Project

My classroom is set up on a stage with bulky risers lining the back. These risers not only take up valuable space on the stage, but they are also very uncomfortable. The students have to sit and stand on these for forty five minutes. I believe the students should have somewhere to sit, sing, and play comfortably in order to stay engaged throughout the class period. By having this rug on the stage, I will be able to remove the risers and create more space so that the students have more room to move and dance. Lastly, the rainbow rug will add a splash of color and personality to the stage making it a more inviting area.
