This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach middle and high school band in a high-needs community. The school district is very small and in an urban setting. Our students all receive free lunch and breakfast. Even though the school and community have financial difficulties, my students come to school eager and ready to learn. The financial hardships do not interfere with their desire to learn and be the best they can be.
I am very fortunate to teach in a district where the students want to excel and work very hard.
My Project
My band is growing in population. With the growing number of students and instruments in the band room, we need some help with organization. I am requesting two storage units to help my students stay organized.
Students that are organized will perform better in the band!
I am going to use the storage units to store all the small instruments in the band room. The storage unit will help keep the instruments off of the floor and out of foot traffic. I will also use the storage unit to hold all the valve oils, reeds, cork grease, and cleaners so the students know exactly where there are located.
I am confident that teaching my students to be organized in the band classroom will help them be organized in other areas of their lives.
