My students need double sided music staff dry erase lap boards for an individualized, tactile learning experience. We also need markers to write on the boards. Each student will have their own board in class.
My students are eager third, fourth, and fifth graders with an unquenchable thirst for musical knowledge. They come to class smiling and energetic, ready to engage in the process of making music. Before school starts in the morning, it is my job to greet the students as they arrive at school. It is common for students to greet me when they see me come up the sidewalk. "What are we doing in music today? I want to play staff games. I remember a lot of notes!"
My students are excited to learn to read music because this opens a new world of possibilities for them.
With this ability, they do not need to learn all songs by rote. Instead, they are much more independent. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. In my classroom everyone, regardless home environment, participates in meaningful musical experiences. The goal is for students to sing well, play several different classroom instruments, and read basic musical notation by the time they graduate the fifth grade. To accomplish our goals in music class, we need your partnership in special projects.
My Project
"Oh yes! I got it right! Okay, the score is one to one now." Students can have individualized competitions with these musical markerboards. That is just one option in the great potential these materials have to influence learning. The students are learning to listen to a song and write down patterns they hear. The marker boards requested will allow students to explore written music independently. One side of the board has the music staff where students can practice writing pitches and other musical symbols. The other side of the board is blank. On the blank side we have many additional possibilities for activities.
These versatile marker boards have many uses in our classroom, and they will last for many years.
On the blank side of the board we can brainstorm ideas or create art that corresponds with music listening. The white erase boards also allow the music teacher to assess individuals without wasting paper. Students can compose their own music on these boards and then play those compositions on our classroom instruments. Finally, these boards will provide an individual writing surface for the occasional pencil and paper activity in a classroom without traditional desks. There are endless possibilities for learning with our musical markerboards!
