Help me give my students three glockenspiels and two base-bars to add to our Instrument (Orff) inventory. This will give students the opportunity to perform for their family and community, which will build their confidence and self-esteem.
James Madison is a Title I school, with 100% of the student population receiving free lunch. James Madison Elementary is in school turnaround due to low academic performance.
There is a wide range of diversity with 44% Limited English Proficient,11% Immigrants, and 81% minority students.
Many of my students also score low in social-emotional learning. which include: Sense of Belonging, Grit, Determination, Confidence, and Positive Self Awareness.
James Madison Elementary School students have so much potential and great family support!
My Project
James Madison is fortunate to have a licensed music teacher. I teach the Kindergarten through third-grade students. My students are so excited to learn about beat, self-expression, instrumental techniques, rhythms, melody, and improvisation. They have even learned how to compose.
Learning Orff instruments have become a favorite part of music class--students look forward to playing these mid-range xylophones year after year.
Purchasing soprano, alto, and bass instruments will enhance my students' enthusiasm and class engagement. We are planning our first concert this year and will perform the Orff instruments for the school community and families.
My students will develop their social-emotional skills through music in the areas of "Sense of Belonging, Social Awareness, Grit, Self-Efficacy, and Emotion Regulation." I am looking forward to adding musical highs and lows so students can enjoy the full-range of harmony.
