Many of my urban students are not able to connect during this time of remote learning. They do not have access to computers or internet. Most of them are too young (or the families do not have the funds) for cell phones.
While I only see my students once a week, they've been my kiddos since the beginning of their school career.
We were unable to get any closure as we typically would at the end of a school year.
My Project
There's something so comforting when someone reads you a story. I would like to present a musical picture book through Zoom meetings and recorded video messages each week for my students. Each story will connect to musical content and social-emotional skills. Some stories I will sing for my students such as "My Aunt Came Back" and "There's a Hole in the Bucket." Other stories such as "Roller Coaster" and the "Kid's Airplane Book" will help students explore vocal expression and contour while connecting to our district wide music bingo assignment. I connect with the art teacher with Zoom meetings twice a week and see roughly 60 students. We'd like to use "The Noisy Paint Box" for a collaborative lesson.
I miss my students so much and want to show them that I am thinking of them.
They've always loved hearing stories and unfortunately I cannot access my classroom library. Thanks for your support! Stay safe and healthy.
