This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a low-income/high poverty school with over 90% of students on free and reduced lunch. We have a diverse population of students with over 20 languages represented in our school.

The students have so many challenges in their lives outside of school, yet come every day willing to open themselves up to new experiences.

Being the theatre teacher I get to see how creative and brave these students are. Our students have strong young voices and they need to be heard.

My Project

The students at our school have never had a theatre program that any student could choose to participate in. The school is in its fourth year in offering theatre as a class, but there has never been a production outside of class work. We have just auditioned and cast our first production ever. We have a very small budget to work with and to be able to do future productions we need to stretch that budget.

I want to use reusable materials that would not only benefit the current cast and show, but could be used and easily stored for students to use for a variety of shows for years to come.

I want to get the canvas to cover 12 panels of the periaktoi I built in the fall to have a material that we can paint scenery on for this show and future shows.
