My students need maracas because we are a musical class just without musical instruments. We need a play rug for our center time that is seperate from our reading area.

This year I was blessed with a musical class. We love to sing and dance. We had a bright idea 1 day to make maracas to go with some of our favorite songs. We saved our milk cartons for a week. They worked 3 days and then they were infested with bugs. I threw them away and my kinders were so sad.
My school is a small charter school located in a poverty stricken area.
We make the most of what we have but honestly, we don't have much of anything. My kindergarteners don't know that we are lacking a lot of simple materials that most schools have because I make my classroom as inviting and happy as possible. I make sure that I get everything they need to make school enjoyable because I know how hard life can be for them outside of our classroom. Our favorite thing to do is listen to kids bop while we work independently. It's funny to hear them singing to themselves as they work. We also love dancing together for our brain breaks.
We will use the materials EVERYDAY in our classroom. My students have been begging for maracas ever since I had to throw our milk carton maracas away. We will also use our play area rug everyday because now that it is getting cold outside, we have indoor center time. I hate having to tell the children to share our little reading area so everyone has a place to play.
Donations to this project will improve our classroom because it will allow for my class to be introduced to real musical instruments.
We don't have a music teacher at our school so however we can teach music throughout the day helps a lot.
