My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Many students in my classroom are interested in music and would love to be featured in our mid-year and end of year performances.
Learning the fundamentals of music is like learning another language and will benefit the student's on many levels, as well as being fun!
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although some prefer some subjects over others. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! Adding the option to learn the basics of music will give them an opportunity to learn skills that they can apply to all areas of their life.
My Project
All of our students want to learn to play music at least once in their lives. Our class needs musical instruments that are simple to learn and play, so they feel successful and are encouraged to continue their learning with other instruments if they would like.
In class, the Boomwhackers will provide the opportunity for the kids to play in the classroom comfortably, many at a time.
This helps them with the basic idea of steady beat in the songs and it also helps to build the self-esteem that they need.
A study from Northwestern University revealed that in order to fully obtain the cognitive benefits of a music class, kids can’t just sit there and listen to music; they have to be actively engaged in the music and participate in the class.
10 reasons to play an instrument:
•Increases Memory Skills
•Teaches Perseverance and Creates a Sense of Achievement
•Improves Coordination
•Improves Math Skills
•Improves Reading and Comprehension Skills
•Creates Responsibility
•Exposes the Student to Culture and History
•Nurtures Self-Expression
•Improves Listening Skills
•Improves Social Skills
As they progress, students will be able to do team and independent work to build musicianship and to be able to practice socialization. While also building skills in various areas of learning.
