Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in the choral program are very dedicated to learning and performing music. They are a talented and dedicated bunch of people and I'm so happy to work with them.

Students in the chorus meet and exceed expectations on a regular basis.

They sight-read music with finesse, diligently write solfege into their music, and actually enjoy warm-up exercises.

Our program requires students to perform at least one concert each quarter with pieces in various languages and different styles. The curriculum is demanding and our students always rise to meet my expectations!

My Project

The Choral Room at our school was designed in the late 1980s. At the time, it was fashionable to install large mirrors on the walls of music rooms for show choirs to utilize. Now, the mirrors are a nuisance for many reasons, especially because they're extremely difficult to move.

The best classroom configuration has my students facing an enormous wall of mirrors with no whiteboard nearby.

Having a roving whiteboard that is both blank and adorned with musical staves will allow me to teach music theory and chorus from the front of the room, rather than flipping the direction of the room twice a day. This will cut down on dead time during rehearsals while students move around the room, and it will allow for an optimal learning environment where all students are facing the same direction.
