My students need pitched instruments to assist in our studies on melody and composition. Two sets each of tone bells and tone chimes are excellent for students in elementary music class.
There are many ways to excite students about making music. Probably the most rewarding is when a student plays their own part in a piece of music. Whether they are playing a specified part or creating their own composition students are encouraged to continue making music!
The students I teach are from a rural county in Western NC.
Our school is a Title I school with about 330 students in kindergarten through 5th grade. A Title I school is a school in which more than 50% of the population in the school receive free or reduced lunch. Each classroom receives music instruction one time a week. Our students are excited to learn and love to experiment with new instruments and activities. For many of our students their weekly music class is their only study of music or playing musical instruments.
My Project
I am requesting two different types of instruments for this project. The jumbo sized True Tone Chimes are tuned and marked with each note of a major scale. Each of the 8 bars come with their own round edge mallet so 8 children can play at once. These can be used for playing the melody of a simple song or for playing repeated patterns along with a melody. The chimes could even be set up and used by one student creating their own composition. The True Tone Hand Bells will compliment the True Tone Chimes. They are color coordinated with the tone chimes so they can be used in the same activities. Like True Tone Chimes, the bells are labeled with the note names to assist students as they learn the notes of the scale.
It is a fact that a solid music education is vital to the growth and development of a child's education.
These instruments will be used in many hands on music lessons. Children will be given the opportunity to explore and create music in their own ways. These activities will also prepare them as they transition from elementary music into middle school and high school band and chorus classes. Students will shine as they perform and learn!
