As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon for changing the world.”
This is exactly what my fourth-grade students need in their daily lives.
They need the necessary resources to help them along the way to move forward and continue to succeed in this world that is full of literacy.
My students attend an inner-city school whose student body is diverse, both academically and socioeconomically. Many of the students are English Language Learners and some were living in war-torn countries before coming to the United States for a better life and education. My students are full of potential and are eager to learn. They come to school each and every day with smiles on their faces despite the challenges they face both at school and home. They do not have the required materials at home to practice what is being taught in the classroom. The instruction they receive in my classroom is usually the extent of their learning time. The support at home is little to none, mostly due to the lack of materials. They need to develop the skills to keep up in a world that is full of literacy.
My Project
Music is a great way to help children retain information and enhance learning. A subscription to Flocabulary will allow for my students to do just that. Flocabulary is a library of songs, videos and activities for K-12 online learning. Hundreds of thousands of teachers use Flocabulary's educational raps and teaching lesson plans to supplement their instruction and engage students.
I was able to preview the subscription and students will be able to learn catchy tunes to enhance their knowledge of a particular topic.
The songs and raps provide explicit instruction to many subject areas.
We also need computer speakers so that the songs can be played for the whole class to hear!
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
